(More customer reviews)I am a 44 year old caucasian woman with fair skin and red/blonde hair. I had acne from the time I was 13, cystic at times through my adult life. I had to wear a lot of makeup to cover the blemishes. When I got in my 30's I noticed the problems with my skin had changed, not only did I have acne but my skin tone was becoming blotchy, red areas mostly around my nose and on my cheeks, that would not go away. After being diagnosed with acne rosacea and prescribed retin-a, different types of topical antibiotics and steroids, and other things that were temporary at best, I decided to try chemical peels.
I started to use glycolic acid, which I found effective but harsh. I have recently started using lactic acid, which I find less aggravating to the rosacea and with a wonderful lightening effect, both on the red blotches and some sun damage to my chest. My skin also feels smoother and not so dry and flaky when it finishes healing. I can see a difference in the way my acne scars look.
Every one's skin is different, you should read up on what each type of peel does for the skin before purchasing and know that it takes quite a few days for your skin to start looking presentable again, so plan your activities accordingly. When you use peels, its going to burn/sting and will turn your skin red like a bad sunburn. To neutralize I simply use a generous amount of baking soda mixed with enough water to make a paste and pressed directly against the skin -it will bubble as it stops the action of the acid. Rinse with lots of cool water! You must use a good moisturizer after the peel and every day thereafter. During the healing process your skin will flake and peel as the cells regenerate. You have to accept the fact that its going to look awful for a few days, period. It may seem like the acne is worse, this is just temporary inflammation. During the first few peels you may see an increase in pimples as pores push clogged material out. This is normal. When it is done healing you will know it was worth it! For the first time in years my skin is starting to clear up. I'm finally starting to get a porcelain complexion with a rosy glow that I have longed to have. Its more youthful as well.
All in all I'm very pleased with the results.
